Priceless Information

This is Ian's piece of web. See it go. Go, weblog, go! Go travel in Asia. Go study in Tokyo. Go home to Portland. Nah, what the hell. Go, study in Beijing.

Stop. I am a student studying Chinese language in Beijing.

I started this weblog in the Summer of 2002. It keeps following me wherever I go. But, I'm glad to have the company.

Thanks to Clifton for hosting Domodomo. If you need a flash or website designer, you can do no better.

Taipei Day 1

Dead links are quicktime videos that I haven't uploaded yet

It's Friday Night here in Asia, got into Taipei late last night. Exhausted from my 24-hour marathon of travel I collapsed into bed pretty quick. It's great to see Sandy again (Sheena's mother). Also met Tracy Sheena's sister, who seems nice enough. Maybe we can hang out later.

I'm adjusting to the humidity better than I thought I would, though I've had to abandon my beloved undershirts. I hope the thousands of Taiwanese people I saw today enjoyed my sweaty nipples shown oh-so-barely through my thin cotton work shirt.

I woke up Friday morning and recorded a tour of Sandy's apartment complete with some nice pans of the Taipei cityscape. We are in Taipei, but not
Taipei City. A nice suprise, Sandy prepared a little garden scene for me.

Taipei has damn good food. I had the best steamed buns I've ever had today. They were my breakfast at Soy Bean Drink King, a famous restraunt open 24-hours a day and apparently frequented by the stars. The stars must like flies, still those buns rocked. The Soy Bean Drink was pretty good too.

There are motor scooters everywhere of course, but I have also seen several cars that are not avaiable in the states. I ask you, what the hell is a Citreon? Also saw a black mini; very nice.

Apparently I came on an interesting day, everywhere we went people were offering food to god and praying for prosperity. Also they were offering up paper money (symbolic money, not real) by burning it in barrels on the street.

We met Sandy for lunch at Dadio's Shabu Shabu. Shabu shabu is similar to a personal hot pot. You have a pot that fits into an electric range at your table in which soup base boils. You then order vegetables, seafood, meat, and various tofu delectables. And it's all you can eat. Pretty damn good.

We got around mostly by subway, which at times goes above ground giving you a good look at the city. American pop culture endures as always. Mostly shopped all day, clothing is extremely cheap here and there are some killer deals. The clothes I did try on wouldn't fit, but I remain convinced I can find some stores that will work for me.

Did the girly photo-booth thing and got our pictures taken, hung out in a three story KFC, and entertained an onlooking group with my DDR skills at Tom's arcade.

Sorry for this rushed post, but I'm kind of anxious to get off this connection as I've more or less kicked Traci out of her room.
