I've moved DomoDomo to hostmysite.com, a real hosting provider. This means faster load times, easier therefore more consistent picture uploading, and an actual domain name. Also I've added quick topic discussions for each new post I make. Does anyone know of an automatic way to do quickposts? Right now I have to go to quicktopic.com and manually create the message, then paste the link to the message in my blog entry >-<. Eventually I might code my own posting system in asp, but I don't really have the time right now. Besides, quicktopic looks so pretty.
DiscussWired has written an article about the
culture of industry in Southern China. It's odd to read an article about Taiwanese factory managers and questionable karaoke girls in Southern China when this was my life just a month ago. My Taiwanese co-workers, well the higher-ups anyway, did work very hard all week. But I'm still not comfortable with the drinking and karaoke culture that has grown out of the need to let loose. But if you want to build relationships with people in China, I'm not sure what alternatives you have other than meeting them on that level. Damn shame as it's so personally destructive.
I'm really eager to see Shanghai and Beijing. I hear Shanghai is comparable to Shinjuku in terms of cityscape and transportation system. Qangdong (still can't spell it!) is seriously such a depressing dump. Most people who live in Zhong Shan are younger factory workers. There's not a lot of families, it feels like a very unsafe place. It will be interesting to see how that area changes when all the young people who have migrated there start having new families.
One of my favorite parts of ZS was the fake city bus. There's a illegitimate bus that goes around when the real bus is full, it's painted just like an official city bus, charges the exact same fair, and transports customers just like a legitimate bus. Wow.
