My childhood acquaintances can be divided into two distinct groups: those who grew up loving the
Final Fantasy series of videogames, and
me. I never played those games. I know what a
chocobo is, and that's as about as far as my knowledge goes. So who worse to tell you about this Tokyo based band than me?
The Black Mages (Guitar: Tsuyoshi Sekito, Guitar: Michio Okamiya, Keboards: Nobuo Uematsu, Bass: Keiji Kawamori, Keyboards: Kenichiro Fukui, and Drums: Arata Hanyuda) play hard-rock remixes of your (not mine) favorite Final Fantasy songs. You can buy their album on
Amazon.jp. Apparently Nobuo Uematsu is a really famous video game composer artist, and once again, if I knew anything about Final Fantasy I'm sure that would mean something to me.
But check out the sound clips
Clash on the Bridge and
Those Who Fight Further, they're pretty damn good. Most interesting to me is that they play live shows in Tokyo:
Black Mages live schedule. Maybe I'll hit their next show, I'll just have to feign understanding of what the hell a
Sephiroth is.
